Couples Counselling
Relationships are complicated. Counselling may help.
Relationships can be a source of emotional fulfilment, but difficulties arise, they can lead to feelings of disappointment, guilt, abandonment, or loneliness. Seeking support can make a meaninful difference.
Relationship counselling is designed to help couples understand and better manage patterns of behaviour that cause distress within their relationship. Counselling and psychotherapy provide a safe, objective and non judgemental space in which to explore concerns openly. Through this process, individuals gain insight into their own patterns of behaviour, how they may relate to others and what changes may help foster a positive and fulfilling relationship.
It can be difficult for people in the midst of conflict to listen and communicate without causing further tension. A psychiatrist can help facilitate more open and honest communication, identifying the underlying patterns driving tension, and support couples in building stronger, more positive bonds with one another.
At Eastern Suburbs Psychiatry, consultations are by appointment only and a valid referral from a medical practitioner is required. Patients with a valid referral may be eligible to receive Medicare rebates for their appointments. An initial three session of history and assessment precede any psychotherapy, and the terms of the process will be discussed and agreed upon collectively. Couples counselling appointment are usually scheduled on a fortnightly basis.
Our psychiatrists provide couples counselling from across Sydney, including the Eastern Suburbs, Sydney CBD and surrounding areas, with patients attending from suburbs such as Darlinghurst, Waverley, Woollahra and North Sydney.
