Dr Stephen Freiberg is a Sydney-based consultant psychiatrist and psychotherapist with more than 30 years of experience.

He provides long term psychotherapy for adults experiencing mood disorders, anxiety disorders, chronic depression, alcohol and drug use, and conditions related to traumatic experiences. He also works with patients experiencing personality disorders, including Borderline (BPD) and Narcissistic disorders.

He also has a particular interest in supporting patients living with cancer, chronical medical conditions and dermatological conditions.

Qualifications and Experience

Dr Freiberg is an accredited member of both the Faculty of Adult Psychiatry and the Faculty of Psychotherapy of the RANZCP.

He previously worked as a consultant psychiatrist in the University Health Service, at the University of Sydney, where he assessed and treated both students and staff. Dr Freiberg also consulted to liaison psychiatry services at tertiary referral hospitals across Sydney.

Forensic Psychotherapy

Dr Freiberg previously worked in the Prison Medical Service of NSW and the Corrections Heath Service. He was a founding members of the International Forensic Psychotherapy Association served on its Executive Council for several years. He is also a Founding Member of the Australian Forensic Psychotherapy Association and currently serves on its board as Scientific Chair.

Academic and Editorial Experience

For many years, Dr Freiberg was a member of the International Editorial Board of the American Journal of Psychotherapy.
