Low Self-esteem

Counselling can help a patient improve their confidence.

Low self-esteem can affect an individual's ability to enjoy life, feel happy, or experience satisfaction. Insight orientated psychotherapy can help an individual understand why they have low confidence and low self-esteem, and how it affects them in their day to day life.

Psychotherapy involves an exploration of an individual's life events, including their early childhood experiences up to the present. Such an exploration can help to understand and identify vulnerabilities in personality such that a patient can learn how to better manage in their everyday life and thereby develop confidence. Psychotherapy is designed to help an individual develop the tools needed to improve their self-esteem in a safe and supportive environment. However exploring one's life can at times be challenging and distressing and hence it is important to discuss any concerns with the psychiatrist rather than disengaging from treatment if things become emotionally difficult.
